Case 2: Daniel Fullerton

POLICE refused requests to release an image of the man after he was convicted for breaking into a house and sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl while she slept. Last September he was jailed for seven years after pleading guilty to three counts of sexual assault and one of burglary.

Belfast Crown Court was told the then 33-year-old, of no fixed abode, had climbed through the open window of a house in north Belfast on June 3 2009.

He climbed into the girl's bed but managed to escape when she went to alert her sleeping parents. Fullerton eventually pleaded guilty after crime scene investigators uncovered his fingerprints on the window and his DNA on the girl he assaulted.

In refusing to release a picture of Fullerton, a PSNI spokesman said guidelines stated that police forces must take account of an individual's human rights.
