MMR jabs available 'within a few weeks'

CHILDREN aged between five and 15 who were never given the MMR vaccine or who were only partially vaccinated can get the jab within the next few weeks.

Health minister Edwin Poots said the vaccination programme aimed to prevent outbreaks of measles such as recent ones in England and Wales.

Families whose children need the vaccination should contact their GP.

The MMR vaccination is usually given shortly after a child's first birthday and once again before the child starts school.

Experts believe measles cases in Britain have risen because some children, aged between 10 and 16, missed out on the vaccination when they were toddlers amid fears at the time that there was a link between the vaccine and autism.
