The new game announcements at E3 2018 are officially underway after Electronic Arts (EA) previewed a range of new titles at an event ahead of the gaming trade show.

As well as confirming its hugely popular football game series Fifa would introduce the official Champions League competition mode later this year, the developer also gave fans new trailers for upcoming action game Anthem and a first look at the multiplayer of Battlefield V.

Here’s all the best bits from the developer’s EA Play showcase.

Anthem

A brand new universe, Anthem is expected to be one of the big stories of E3 this year with gamers hoping to get a look at gameplay for the first time following its unveiling last year.

It’s gathering plenty of interest because it’s being developed by BioWare, the studio behind the Mass Effect series.

At their showcase, the game was given a big billing by EA, with a new cinematic trailer as well as a first look at some of the game’s combat, and how players are expected to work in teams.

The game’s release date was also confirmed, but it’s a while away: February 22 next year.

Battlefield V

The already-confirmed Second World War epic Battlefield V was shown off in a new trailer, one that focuses on the game’s large-scale multiplayer mode.

As the trailer showed, the combat will spread across air, land and sea, with players fighting down to the last man in some multiplayer modes.

The game will also feature a single player campaign known as War Stories.

Fifa 19

Fifa 19’s existence is no surprise, but the big news is that EA Sports have confirmed it will feature the officially licensed Champions League competition for the first time.

Until now, the tournament has appeared in rival football game series Pro Evolution Soccer, but that partnership ended earlier this year.

Now it appears EA have stepped in and grabbed the competition with both hands.

Sea of Solitude

Another completely new game, Sea of Solitude catches the eye for its slightly creepy premise and appearance.

The game revolves around the idea of humans turning into monsters when they get lonely, and takes place in a colourful, water-heavy landscape filled with mysterious creatures.

It looks fascinating and is likely to draw intrigued crowds during E3.

Unravel 2

One of the most charming and sweet characters and settings in games is back, as Yarny the little creature made of string returns.

This time however, the game can be played as a two-player co-op for the first time with a second Yarny being introduced to help navigate the rustic natural landscapes that made the original platforming game such an enjoyable experience.

As an added bonus, the game has been released today.

Command & Conquer: Rivals

Popular strategy game Command & Conquer is also making a comeback, with a new mobile game confirmed by EA.

Confirmed as on the way for both iOS and Android, the game will feature real-time one-on-one matches against other players.

The E3 announcements will continue on Sunday as Microsoft and Bethesda hold their own events, with the latter expected to spend plenty of time talking about Fallout 76.
