Jaguar’s first ever electric car has undergone its first road test on the streets of London.
The concept I-PACE has taken to the roads within the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, with the car giant hoping to have the car on the road with customers by the second half of 2018.
The SUV can go from 0-60 in around four seconds and is capable of covering over 300 miles on a single charge of its battery, Jaguar says – the equivalent of driving from central London to Newcastle.
That long-lasting battery is quick to charge too. Jaguar says the lithium-ion battery can be charged to 80% in 90 minutes.
“Driving the concept on the streets is really important for the design team,” Jaguar director of design Ian Callum said.
“It’s very special to put the car outside and in the real world.
“You can see the true value of the I-PACE’s dramatic silhouette and powerful proportions when you see it on the road, against other cars.
“The I-PACE Concept represents the next generation of battery electric vehicle design. For me, the future of motoring has arrived.”
Jaguar says it plans to fully reveal the I-PACE later this year ahead of that on-sale aim of the middle of next year.
