Cynthia Nixon has marked Sex And The City’s 20th anniversary by launching merchandise based on her character, in support of her run for New York governor.

The actress – who played lawyer Miranda Hobbes in the hit show and its spin-off films – unveiled the line on Wednesday to mark the milestone of the show, which first aired in 1998.

Nixon posted a video on Instagram showing the line of clothes, which includes t-shirts and bags emblazoned with the words “I’m a Miranda and I’m voting for Cynthia”.

She said: “Are you a Miranda voting for Cynthia?

“In honour of #SATC20, we just launched a line of Miranda merchandise designed by the team behind @everyoutfitonsatc… because, well, we should all be Mirandas who vote for Cynthia.”

The activist and actress announced she was running for office earlier this year.

Nixon’s co-star Kristin Davis shared a picture of the bag on her own Instagram account and wrote: “20 years ago would i have imagined @cynthiaenixon running for Governor?

“Maybe not – but i sure would have thought she would be an excellent Governor in a world where that would be possible !

“And we are now in that world – so let’s support Cyn and get our excellent merchandise from @everyoutfitonsatc.”

Davis also shared a picture of the Sex And The City cast – including Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall – on their last day of the series.

She said: “I guess today is the actual 20th Anniversary of the first airing of Sex and the City.

“I‘ll post more pics, but i like this one of of the last day we filmed the series because it shows the writers and crew. An incredible bunch of humans who are not acknowledged enough! And it shows how much the show mattered to us.

“@sarahjessicaparker and i cried like babies on the street. What we were all able to do together and the support from the fans around the world was beyond our wildest dreams. We are connected forever and i am so grateful.”

The original six-season TV show ran for six years between 1998 and 2004, following the lives of Carrie (Parker), Samantha (Cattrall), Charlotte and Miranda as they struggled through the world of dating.

The leading foursome reunited when the show was transformed into a feature film in 2008, with a second two years later, both directed by Michael Patrick King.
