A US Marines dog was given a grand farewell as hundreds of mourners gathered to say their final goodbyes to the pup, who was battling cancer.

Cena, a black Labrador, became a hero in Michigan after he served three tours in Afghanistan. He retired in 2014.

Before being euthanised, the 10-year-old Lab was taken on a final parade through the streets in his home town, organised by his owner.

He was then taken to USS LST 393, a museum ship in Muskegon, Michigan, where he was put down and carried off in a flag-draped coffin.

Thankfully, he received an abundance of affectionate pats, and was well-loved on his final journey.
