Here's where Donald Trump was while he was being roasted at the White House Correspondents Dinner

Hint – it wasn’t at the dinner.

The White House Correspondents dinner has taken place without president Donald Trump in attendance.

Trump is the first president to skip the dinner since Ronald Reagan in 1981, who was recovering from a gunshot wound. Despite his absence, comedian Hasan Minhaj, of the Daily Show, took to the podium to the president his traditional roast.

Outside of the U,S these comments about the current president on such a platform might seem bold – but they are in keeping with the tradition of the White House Correspondents Dinner.

The dinner celebrates the First Amendment of the US constitution – their right to freedom of speech – and invites members of the media and other guests to attend, with news networks like CNN and MSNBC being given their own table.

So where was Trump? Well, he was in Pennsylvania holding a rally – where he condemned the media.

Trump took to Twitter to thank those that came out to watch the rally the next morning.

Minhaj also took to Twitter after his speech – posting a picture of himself at the dinner with a caption which read: “Nicki Minaj bombing at #WHCD.”
