The House of Commons has been debating triggering Article 50 to commence Brexit – and to get her point across one Scottish MP took some inspiration from a very famous story based in Scotland.
The MP is the SNP’s Hannah Bardell and the film, based on a book of course, Trainspotting – enjoy.

The speech, based on the famous “choose life” speech from Irvine Welsh’s book, was a heated attack on the government’s plan to leave the EU.Bardell said the speech was in tribute to author Welsh, and it is apt as the film version of Trainspotting 2 – starring the original cast with Ewan McGregor and Ewen Bremner and once again directed by Danny Boyle – opened in cinemas on Friday.
Inspired by #Trainspotting2 – I wanted to highlight that Scotland did not choose #Brexit, it chose life, in the EU. https://t.co/I9TcpHHOLe

Bardell’s party the SNP are strictly opposed to Brexit following Scotland’s majority vote to stay in the EU in June’s referendum and also ultimately would like independence for Scotland in the UK. Perhaps in reference to this, Bardell said before the speech “it will be the beginning of the end of this dis-United Kingdom”.
the MP that rewrote the trainspotting speech to attack brexit is my new hero

Just heard @HannahB4LiviMP giving a fantastic rendition of *that* Trainspotting soliloquy for the Brexit generation. Witty but so important.

Great Trainspotting Brexit parody Hannah Bardell, MP.

Despite Bardell’s speech, parliament chose overwhelmingly to support the European Union Bill and for Brexit negotiations to commence by 498 votes to 114 – a debate on how a deal is made will soon follow.
