Bold new Tucson to keep Hyundai at top of SUV pile

WE love the Hyundai Tucson in Northern Ireland, where it has been just about the most popular family SUV on the market since it arrived in 2015.

But it's time for an all-new Tucson - and here it is. The current car's handsomely chunky styling is one of its strongest features, and the new version really builds on that.

The boldest aspect is the front with its 'hidden' headlamps and genuinely striking appearance.

As Hyundai puts it, when the lights are off, the "front of the vehicle appears covered in dark, geometric patterns, with no distinction between the signature LED daytime running lights, which are seamlessly integrated into the grille".

"Thanks to state-of-the-art half-mirror lighting technology, when the DRLs are switched on, the dark chrome appearance of the grille transforms into jewel-like shapes, bringing an eye-catching element to an otherwise sleek appearance," it says.

Expect the latest electrified engines, including hybrid, plug-in hybrid and mild-hybrid options, and the most up-to-date safety assistance aids.

Hyundai promises more space, passenger comfort and lots of 'connectivity' features.

We'll get more details as the car moves closer to its Northern Ireland launch, but on this early evidence, Hyundai would appear to have another hit on its hands.
