DESIGNERS set their dials for the grooviest decade of all this season, with the 70s providing inspiration for many of the AW20 catwalk collections.

It makes sense that the rock ‘n’ roll retro look is big news for autumn/winter. The muted colour palette and rich textures are perfectly suited to the colder months – not to mention all that woolly warmth.

So, what do you need to complete the look? Flares are a must, of course, whether dark denim, cord or velvet, while dresses should be swishy and midi length, ideal for teaming with knee-high boots, if you want to go more head-to-toe 70s.

On your top half, high-neck or pussy-bow blouses can be teamed with either flared jeans or a midi skirt. Stick to autumnal browns, reds and green hues to create a luxe feel.

Top it all off with a long, fluffy coat and you’ve got the 70s sewn up. Here’s our pick of the best vintage-inspired pieces on the high street…
