Marie Louise McConville: 2020 to be the year of plastic-free, activist-raising parenting? No thanks

So, here we are, living it up in the roaring twenties - how's it going for you so far?

With such a long build up to the arrival of not only a new year but a new decade, big things were expected.

But I bet most of you, like me, are doing the same things, wearing the same clothes, eating the same food - no biggie.

Of course, with the arrival of a new year comes a raft of predictions for the 12 months ahead about our love lives, health, wealth and jobs.

However, 2020 has also brought with it predictions about how parenting methods will change this year and really, they are all kinds of crazy.

Apparently, this year us parents will work from offices in nurseries, raise children to be activists and micro-manage our days using five minute slots - what fun indeed.

According to research by parenting site, Channelmum.com, we are all planning smaller families as we have been just so inspired by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The pair generated headlines around the world last year when it was revealed they will limit themselves to two children in a bid to save the planet.

Ok, so while I don't disagree that couples are having fewer children, I would be more inclined to think it's to do with rising childcare costs and not because of Harry and Meghan.

The UK-based organisation has also predicted that the `Greta Effect' with also take a firm hold in 2020.

Inspired by teen eco warrior Greta Thunberg, it is predicted that more parents will encourage their children to become activists in the new decade.

We're told children will become increasingly vocal about causes they believe in and this year will see more youngsters defying convention to lecture and teach adults on issues such as climate action.

2020 will also be the year of natural pregnancy - no scans, painkillers and minimal medical appointments in keeping with eco-mothering - plastic-free parenting and co-working nurseries, consisting of offices where mothers can meet, network and share childcare in a very modern so-called 'mum village'.

We will also throw `Period Parties' for our daughters to eliminate the stigma around the monthly visitor, adopt `Take 20' where we will set aside 20 minutes every day to simply sit with our children and listen to them and also go big on micro-scheduling where we will plan our days in five minute slots.

What a load of rubbish.

Who has the time to plan their day in five minute slots and who on earth would throw their daughter a `Period Party'?

You can keep your radical parenting ideas, I'll stick with what I know - plenty of hugs, lots of tickles and the odd white lie or two.

After all, it never did me any harm, did it?

What a year 2019 was for Scottish singer/songwriter, Lewis Capaldi.

Figures have just revealed that the talented 23-year-old was the UK's best-selling artist of last year.

The Bruises singer had both the top album and single of the year, with his ballad Someone You Loved racking up 228 million streams.

I'm not at all surprised by this as this guy is just phenomenal and I was extremely pleased when Santa brought me his amazing album for Christmas.

Every single track on Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent is brilliant.

Now my commute to work is an altogether different experience.

Thanks Lewis. Keep up the good work.
