A chance to discover what lies beneath...

AS TEMPERATURES soar, Ulster Wildlife is urging day-trippers to take a dip below the surface and explore our amazing underwater world during the ongoing National Marine Week, which continues until August 10.

A shoal of free events is on offer for families who wish to savour our shores and discover

what lies beneath the waves, ranging from rockpool rambles in Groomsport and fossil hunts in Dunseverick, to marine roadshows featuring life-sized inflatable ocean giants from whales and sharks to turtles at Foyleside Shopping Centre in Derry and Quays Shopping Centre in Newry.

Ulster Wildlife's Living Seas staff and volunteers will be sharing their knowledge and expertise to help everyone find out more about the wonderfully varied wildlife found under our coastal waters, from tiny corals and shoals of gleaming fish, to playful seals and massive basking sharks, the world's second largest fish. Events include taking a look at geology rocks at Dunseverick, Co Antrim on Sunday August 10 (10.30am to 12.30pm) and a Marine Wildlife Roadshow at Quays Shopping Centre, Newry, which concludes this Monday. n To find out more about Ulster Wildlife's National Marine Week events or to lend your support to its work, visit Ulsterwildlife.org
