St Patrick’s, Keady 2-8 St Mark’s, Warrenpoint 1-1
WHEN St Patrick’s turned around at half-time with a lead of 1-4 to 1-1 they were in a great position to push on and win thisgame in McGleenan Park.
The south Armagh side had played against the breeze and contained St Mark’s for the opening 10 minutes.
Warrenpoint then took the lead with a goal from Drew Annett after 13 minutes.
The Keady response was swift, however, and Kai O’Hara netted in the next attack.
Then two points each from Paul Óg McGee and Charlie Doyle gave them a strong lead of three points with wind advantage to follow.
Now it was the turn of St Mark’s to contain their opponents and they managed quite well, although they couldn’t make their own forays into attack count.
The key moment arrived 10 minutes into the second half when Christopher Corr pulled off a great save.
Keady broke and O’Hara bagged a second goal that more or less guaranteed his team the title.
Peter O’Callaghan was excellent in defence, while Charlie Doyle and O’Hara were always a threat up front.
Warrenpoint simply didn’t get going as they had done in the games that took them to the decider, but players such as Reece Stewart, Shane Quinn and Mark McCoy can be proud of their performances yesterday.
