THE coronavirus pandemic has forced singing star Daniel O’Donnell to abandon plans for a cruise to celebrate his wife Majella’s 60th birthday.

Instead of setting off on the holiday of a lifetime this week, he told how they dropped their plans in favour of a celebration with family and friends via Zoom.

Daniel, who is self-isolating with his wife at their home in west Donegal, also revealed he has had to postpone a planned tour of Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania.

The tour was scheduled for August and September but has been put back until February and March next year.

Majella, who came through breast cancer in 2013, said her husband had arranged for her daughter and son, Siobhan and Michael, and their grandchildren to join them on the cruise but the plans had to be dropped.

She told fans she’d be celebrating the milestone birthday at home instead with a bottle of champagne.

However, Daniel had other plans and said he used the Zoom video app to bring family and friends together for a celebration, including a pink birthday cake.

He told fans via Facebook: “Having a zoom party today for Majella.”

Daniel said the couple were passing their time in isolation with gardening and playing bridge online.

“The big celebration and all the things we had planned are not happening but anyway we’re safe and we’ll celebrate the two of us together,” he said.
