DANSKE Bank has announced plans to expand its branch at the Abbey Centre shopping complex in Newtownabbey.

The lender is extending the branch into the two adjacent units, doubling its size.

The work will involve closing the existing premises at 4pm on Friday May 12, with a temporary branch opening at the retail centre at 10am on May 15.

Danske Bank said all existing branch services will be available at the temporary branch, with the newly refurbished branch not expected to be open until November.

The new outlet will be fitted with a self-service wall, including an automated deposit machine, cash machines and an express deposit for business lodgements.

The Danish owned lender currently has 28 branches across the north, following the closure of four locations last September.

It retains the second biggest northern branch network behind Ulster Bank.

Aisling Press, managing director of personal banking at Danske Bank said: “We’ve invested heavily in transforming our key branches over the last few years and are delighted to now add our Abbey Centre branch to that list.

“Customers will experience a larger, more modern and welcoming space, with better access to self-service facilities.

“New soft seating areas, and dedicated spaces for assisted service, advisory meetings and video meetings will also be available, ensuring that we cater for all our customers' needs.

“Importantly, our colleagues will be on hand to ensure that our customers experience a warm and friendly environment and to provide any support or assistance they need.”
