Record Store Day 2017

TOMORROW sees the frustratingly futile scramble for limited edition vinyl that is Record Store Day returning for its 10th year.

While there is little point in even attempting to get hold of the most desirable RSD releases – if indeed your preferred shop even has a hope in hell of actually receiving them in the first place – you could still just do the rounds of independent music retailers tomorrow to check out their special events to mark the day, and maybe even pick up a couple of normal new releases or sale items while you're at it.

For example, Belfast's Sick Records in North Street will welcome back Robyn G Shiels for his traditional RSD instore performance tomorrow afternoon, along with live turns by top outfits Malojian, Arborist and The Bonnevilles with DJ sets from various local music heads in between.

Doors are at 8am, with music from 2pm.

Round the corner and over the road at Head in CastleCourt, there will be guest DJs to soundtrack your browsing throughout the day, plus giveaways for special RSD swag and a prize draw for a limited-edition RSD-branded Rega Research RP1 turntable in aid of Help Musicians UK.

Meanwhile, up the Glenshane Pass, Derry's Cool Discs are having a 20th birthday bash in association with Stendhal Festival: Punters can enjoy live music from Ports, Paddy Nash, John Deery, Emma Lusby and ROE from 2.30pm, with the celebrations continuing at Sandinos from 9pm with a DJ-set from Portishead head, Andy Smith (tickets £7).
