1. When did you think about music as a career and what were your first steps into it?

I first thought about music as a career when I was around 14 or 15 and my first steps into were singing my first gigs with my friend and mentor, the late Tony Small in my hometown of Dingle, Co Kerry.

2. Best shows you’ve been to?

Number one would Martha Wainwright in St James Church, Dingle during an Other Voices event. Other great nights were Damien Dempsey in Vicar Street and Bruce Springsteen at the RDS, Dublin.

3. Fantasy wedding/birthday party band?

Nile Rodgers and his band Chic.

4. The record you’d take to a desert island?

Blue, the fourth album of Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell.

5. And the book?

Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks.

6. Top three films?

Gone With The Wind, Raging Bull and There Will Be Blood.

7. Worst film you’ve seen?

The 2006 American crime film Miami Vice.

8. Favourite authors?

Mia Angelou, Sebastian Faulks and Colum McCann.

9. Sport you most enjoy and top team?

It would have to be GAA and my home county of Kerry. I love the Ultimate Fighting Championship too.

10. Ideal holiday destination?

Anywhere sunny with a quiet beach and good food and company.

11. Pet hate?

Loud eating and heavy breathing.

12. What’s your favourite:

Dinner? Sushi.

Dessert? Crème brulée.

Drink? Grey Goose vodka and soda.

13. Who is your best friend and how do you know each other?

I have a few best friends from growing up in west Kerry and others made through music.

14. Is there a God?

Nope. Committed atheist.
