This weekend's Sunflower Trophy Races at Bishopscourt near Downpatrick has again attracted a star studded lineup for the traditional end of season short circuit races.

Promoted by the Hillsborough and District Motorcycling Club, the event again sees stalwart Jim Finlay of Sunflower Foods put his backing again into Ireland’s premier short-circuit motorcycling event.

Heading the line up will be six-time Sunflower Trophy winner Michael Laverty.

The Toomebridge British Superbike star will again grace the event on the TYCO BMW Superbike that he campaigned the 2018 BSB Championships on and will be one of the race favourites for the blue riband Superbike event.

Joining Laverty will be Richard Cooper on the Buildbase Suzuki who comes fresh from a Superbike BSB Win last weekend.

The talented Englishman will have fellow country man and former Sunflower Trophy winner Danny Bucan to contend with along with Ulster Superbike champion Gerard Kinghan from Randalstown and Dromara’s Alastair Kirk to name just a few who could be chasing the coveted trophy.

Also making an appearance will be Carrickfergus rider Glenn Irwin who will ride the Burrows Engineer Kawasaki ER6 in the Supertwins Races.

Former Moto Grand Prix competitor Jeremy McWilliams also goes in this year's event in the Supertwins and Moto 3 Races.

Practice for today's racing got under way yesterday with a shake down this morning before racing proper commences.

The feature race of the day for the Sunflower Trophy takes place around 1pm today.
