Niall Smith bound for Boston after Ulster final victory

NIALL Smith saw off a determined challenge from Austin McKeown to win the Novice One Ulster Championship in Eglish on Sunday.

McKeown was a shade unlucky with his first bowl and Smith took a 30-yard lead before McKeown launched a comeback at the halfway stage. But there was no stopping Smith who continued to hit every sap and break records over the Eglish course.

Credit must be given to Austin McKeown as he didn’t do much wrong, but Smith has now won his fourth Ulster title and booked himself on the plane for Boston to contest in the All-Ireland final in October.
