Armagh ladies' football star Caroline O'Hanlon to carry flag for Northern Ireland team at Commonwealth Games

ARMAGH Ladies’ Footballer Caroline O’Hanlon will be the Northern Ireland flag bearer in this morning’s Commonwealth Games opening ceremony in Australia.

The Carrickcruppen and Orchard county midfielder who will star for the Northern Ireland netball team at the Gold Coast Games said she felt “very, very proud” to lead out the 88-strong team the at the Carrara Stadium.

“You want to be selected to represent Northern Ireland and be here at the Games but to have been asked… I was shocked to be honest, but I’m very, very proud,” said the three-time Allstar who was named Ladies’ Footballer of the Year in 2014.

O’Hanlon, who plays her club netball for Manchester Thunder, joins a star-studded list of previous flag bearers which includes Mary Peters.
