Ulster Road Bowls Championships in full swing

THE Philip White Tyres Ulster Championships are now in full swing and the Novice 2 Championships got underway on The Rock Road last weekend with Dermot Grimley seeing off Marty Hughes in the opener.

In the second score, Newtownhamilton’s Barry Conlon had a bowl to spare over Paul Hughes.

In Madden, Navan native Marty Hannaway was a very impresive winner, beating Hugh McSorley by 2 bowls. In the afternoon Eglish kicked off the Novice 1 championship.

First up was Navan’s Hugh McCoy v Conor Daly (Tieve Tara), but it was McCoy who took the honours. Last year’s Ulster Novice 2 champion Martin Malone came from behind to beat local favourite Damian McVeigh. Junior C also kicked off over the Tieve Tara course and Paul Murphy had a last shot win over Joe Short.
