AFTER several near misses, Brian O'Reilly saw off his cousin Paul to win a deserved Men’s Senior Ulster Championship on Sunday.

Paul had beaten reigning Ulster and All-Ireland champion Thomas Mackle to reach the final, but after a cagey start Brian produced what one spectator described as “the shot of the championship” to take the lead and, eventually, his first ever provincial title.

Meanwhile, Ruairi Hughes retained his Ulster U16 crown in a battle with Navan Club team-mate Caolan Smith. Hughes now holds back-to-back Ulster titles and has every chance in an All-Ireland double. Geraldine Kiernan took the girls’ title after she saw off Rebecca Fields on Sunday.
