Quinn to give singles a miss

Last season's Champion of Champions singles winner John Quinn
Ray McClean

LAST season's Champion of Champions singles winner John Quinn will not be defending his title when the competition gets underway on Saturday at Shaws Bridge.

The Ballylennon man has won the individual event three times and has decided to give it a miss this season in favour of competing in the rinks which will also start on Saturday.

The 32-year-old claims executive said: "After enjoying my triple success in the singles I decided to switch my attention to the fours where I will be joined by Cookstown High's Alan Paul, Clarke Hill and Alan Laughlin of Spa Golf Club.

"We were successful in the Salisbury BC tournament last season and decided to renew our acquaintanceship in the Champion of Championships tournament".

Quinn and his colleagues will certainly provide stiff opposition for their opponents as the quartet can boast a wealth of Champion of Champions and national titles.

Despite their impeccable pedigree Quinn is taking nothing for granted and said: "While we played extremely well together and obviously hope to do so again we fully realise that we will face some very talented opponents who also have title ambitions".

The singles competition should also provide some top-class bowling with a host of top names taking part.

The pairs and triples will be played at the same venue on Saturday, October 17.
