Munster SHC round three

Limerick 3-21 Tipperary 0-23

HAVING now lost three from three in this year’s Munster senior hurling campaign, Tipperary manager Colm Bonnar lamented their failure to take their chances against Limerick yesterday afternoon.

The reigning All-Ireland champions put themselves in pole position for a provincial final place thanks to late goals from Conor Boylan and Aaron Gillane at the Gaelic Grounds.

"I don't think the score-line reflects our effort," Bonnar told RTÉ after the game.

"I'm hugely disappointed because, even with 10 minutes to go, I felt we were going to win this game. We were three points up midway through the second-half and had chances to go six or seven up, but didn’t take them. But maybe that’s a young team and we have to learn to build that momentum,” Bonnar added of a panel which is minus 12 of their squad from last year’s Championship.

"We knew we were under the cosh and had to come in with a performance. I thought we competed very well. But credit to Limerick, they came back and scored the goals when it mattered."

Christy Ring Cup round four

Wicklow 3-10 Kildare 5-25

KILDARE booked their place in the Christy Ring final with a comfortable win over Wicklow in Aughrim on Saturday.

Johnny Byrne and Gerry Keegan struck majors for the winners in the opening 11 minutes at Joule Park, where they would go on to lead by 2-12 to 1-5 at the break.

Brian Byrne and James Burke netted two more goals for the visitors in quick succession after the turnaround and Cathal Dowling would add another with five minutes to go to help round off the 21-point victory.

Mayo 2-23 Sligo 1-20

MAYO set up a final round showdown with Derry thanks to a six-point win over Connacht rivals Sligo at Ballina on Saturday.

Having trailed by 0-13 to 0-12 at the break, the home side produced the second-half goods to record their third victory of the campaign and a shot at a final spot.

The Mayo county board yesterday afternoon confirmed that MacHale Park in Castlebar will be available for this Saturday’s game against Derry after an outcry over the alleged lockout of the senior hurlers from the Westerners’ premier county ground.

Nickey Rackard Cup round four

Warwickshire 0-10 Donegal 0-33

DONEGAL put themselves in pole position for a Nickey Rackard final spot thanks to 21-point win over Warwickshire at Páirc na hÉireann on Saturday afternoon.

Mickey McCann’s led by 0-18 to 0-5 at half-time in Birmingham and strolled through the second-half to set up a final round decider with Tyrone in Healy Park this Saturday.

Armagh 3-18 Fermanagh 2-19

ARMAGH pulled clear of Warwickshire at the bottom of the table thanks to a first win over the campaign over Fermanagh in Crossmaglen.

Danny Magee’s goal just before the break opened up a four-point lead for the hosts (2-9 to 1-8) and Tiarnán Nevin found the Ernesiders’ net with 10 minutes to go, which proved to be enough despite Fermanagh netting a goal in injury-time.
