DUBLINER Padraig Harrington completed a famous hat-trick after winning his third Dick’s Sporting Goods Open in as many years.

Coming into the final day of the tournament, Harrington was tied for the led with Stephen Ames and Ken Tanigawa.

However, the three-time major champion soon broke out of the tie with an eagle on the par-5 third hole and shot four under on the front nine to put himself into the led.

He would continue to hold off the rest of the field on the back nine, going even at par.

Harrington carded a final round four-under 68, which would see him take the win by one shot from Canadian Mike Weir. For his efforts, the 52-year-old would claim $315,000 (€295,000).

This is the the second Champions Tour win that Harrington has taken this year, as he won the Hoag Tour in California this March.

It’s also the first time Harrington has teed up since being inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame earlier this month.

Speaking after his hat-trick win, Harrington said:

“I can’t be more overjoyed. It’s been a great week here, everybody’s looked after us

“They’ve renewed for five years, so I have the opportunity to go eight in a row. Let’s see how we get on.”

The Dubliner’s victory moved him into sixth place, up 11 spots, in the Charles Schwab Cup.

Harrington is next teeing up at the US Senior open in just a few days, on June 27, and will be hoping that his good form continues.
