Padraig Harrington has proven age is but a number after finishing the first round of the Valero Texas Open tied for second place.

Harrington (51) hit six birdies as the veteran golfer thrived in challenging conditions and was tied with five others at four-under by the completion of the day’s play.

With 23 years of experience on tour and six PGA tour wins, the Dubliner showed his class throughout the day, but was at his best when he ended up with a par after hitting one into the bunker despite the misty and windy conditions.

He was not without error though, scoring two bogeys that stopped him from finishing tied for first, but he is certainly well-placed with three days left of play in San Antonio.

American Justin Lower is currently in the lead on five-under, while England’s Matt Wallace sits tied for seventh on three-under.

Like Harrington, Wallace finished the day with six birdies but four bogeys put him slightly behind the top group heading into the second day.
