Tyrone Senior League Division One final: Trillick v Killyclogher (today, Dromore, 3pm)
IT didn’t happen in championship this year for Trillick and Killyclogher, but they have an opportunity to finish off their season with significant silverware when they meet in the Division One League final today.
They have been the two most consistent teams in League football, with Killyclogher finishing top of the table, a point ahead of second placed Trillick.
They still had to negotiate semi-final ties to get to the decider, and Trillick had an impressive victory over defending league champions Carrickmore, while Killyclogher edged out Errigal Ciaran by a single point.
This afternoon’s final at Gardrum Park in Dromore is likely to produce a positive, attacking encounter, with two of the county’s most prolific finishers, Lee Brennan of Trillick and Killyclogher’s Mark Bradley leading the line for their respective sides.
The former Tyrone attackers will be key men up front, and Trillick will also look to Seanie O’Donnell, Daire Gallagher, Mattie Donnelly, Richie Donnelly and Rory Brennan to power them to a first league title since 1985.
Killyclogher’s Tiernan McCann and Conal McCann, along with Gabhan Sludden, Michael Rafferty and Gavin Potter are key men in the search for a second title in three years.
They have won the Division One League just three times in the club’s history, with previous successes in 2001, 2014 and 2020.
Trillick have been crowned league champions on six occasions, including a dominant spell in the 1980s, when they won four in a row between 1982 and 1985.
Today’s final goes ahead earlier than anticipated, due to first round championship defeats suffered by both clubs, with Trillick eliminated by Dungannon and Killyclogher losing to county champions Dromore.
The league winners in the other grades have already been confirmed, with Eglish winning Division Two and Stewartstown finishing on top in Division Three.
But a number of promotion and relegation play-offs remain outstanding due to the continued involvement of various clubs in championship football.
