Harps to meet Shamrocks in repeat of last year's Fermanagh final

DERRYGONNELLY Harps and Roslea Shamrocks will meet in the quarter-final of the Quinn Building Products Fermanagh Senior Football Championship in a repeat of last year’s final.

The Harps are going for six Fermanagh titles in a row and look to have strengthened their hand this year with the return of Paul Ward following injury and the introduction of Hogan Cup winner Micheal Glynn.

Ederney meanwhile will have the opportunity to exact revenge on Belnaleck with the pair drawn for a second year in a row.

Last season the Art MacMurroughs caused an upset seeing off Ederney by a single point.

Belnaleck will be without the services of Lee Cullen who is travelling while Ederney will look to veteran Marty McGrath for inspiration.

Another quarter-final repeat is the tie of Tempo and Teemore.

Tempo won the duel last year and will be hoping youngster Lorcan McStravick can once again provide the finishing touches in attack with Eoin McManus looked to by Teemore to provide that stamp of class.

In the final quarter-final Erne Gaels will meet Kinawley, who won the Intermediate Championship last season.

A tight encounter is expected here with the Corrigan brothers, Ruairi and Tomas key to Kinawley’s chances.

In the Kevin Courtney Car Sales and Services Intermediate Championship favourites Enniskillen Gaels will square off against Irvinestown in the quarter final.

Devenish, who were relegated to Intermediate last season, will meet Aghadrumsee. St Patrick’s, Donagh and Maguiresebridge will face off in the third quarter final with Lisnaskea meeting Belcoo to complete the draw.

Both the senior and Intermediate Championship work on a straight knock out with the Peter Carty Funeral Director Junior Championship operating a little differently. Four teams will go in search of the crown.

Coa will play Newtownbutler with Brookeborough and Derrylin also facing off.

The winners of these two games will meet in the first semi-final.

The losers will play each other in a do-or-die tie with the winner meeting the losers of semi-final one for a place in the final.

All three competitions will get under way on the last weekend in August.

Meanwhile the draw for the re-structured Monaghan Senior Football Championship has thrown up some interesting opening pairings.

The new format sees the 10 teams divided into two groups of five.

In Group 1 Magheracloone, Inniskeen, Donaghmoyne, Ballybay and reigning county champions, Clontibret will battle it out.

Group 2 sees last year’s defeated finalists, Scotstown joined by Latton, Castleblayney, Carrickmacross and Truagh.

The draw for the first round resulted as follows:

Group 1: Inniskeen v Magheracloone, Ballybay v Clontibret, Donaghmoyne a bye.

Group 2: Castleblayney v Latton, Scotstown v Truagh, Carrickmacross a bye.

Those games are scheduled to take place on the weekend of July 26.

The format for the Intermediate and Junior football Championships is along the same lines.

Meanwhile Kilkenny GAA has confirmed that one club player in the county has tested positive for Covid-19.

The county board spokesperson said that this a private medical matter for the individual and that it would not be naming the club involved.

The Kilkenny spokesperson added that all GAA and Health and Safety Executive guidelines and protocols have been followed in this case.

Rumours had been circulating over the weekend about an outbreak of Covid-19 at one or more clubs.
