MALACHY O'Rourke's Monaghan got off to a winning start with victory over reigning Allianz League and All-Ireland champions Dublin at Clones today.

Goals by Shane Carey and Stephen O'Hanlon propelled the Farney county to a 2-13 to 1-13 Division One win.

Monaghan travel across to near-neighbours Roscommon for next Sunday's round two fixture.

Over at Brewster Park, Enniskillen in Division 2, the main talking point was the ‘offensive mark’.

Fermanagh rescued a point with a last-gasp free (0-8 to 1-5) by Conall Jones from such a situation, converted after it was controversially brought forward, apparently for obstruction,

Cork – down to 14 men for most of the second half - disputed that the referee had actually signalled the mark.

There was a winning start for Kerry under their new senior manager Peter Keane but a bitterly-disappointing opening for Dr McKenna Cup winners Tyrone.

The Red Hands were made to pay for a terrible first-half display, going down on a 0-11 to 0-7 scoreline at Fitzgerald Stadium, in Killarney.

At Pairc Esler in Newry on Saturday night, new Down boss Paddy Tally would have been well pleased with his side’s opening half against Laois.

However, what transpired over the course of the next 35 minutes or so was a harsh lesson for these young Down players.

Laois scored 2-10 in the second period to walk off 2-15 to 1-12 winners.

Elsewhere Kieran McGeeney's Armagh side were denied a win after home side Kildare snatched a late draw, 0-14 to 1-11, in Newbridge today.

Jimmy Hyland's 74th minute free levelled the game.

Armagh will rue some poor kicking and letting a good lead slip after Stefan Campbell scored in the second half.
