SOUTH BELFAST club Bredagh have made history by winning the Ulster Minor Ladies' Football Championship for the first time.

The Down champions defeated Moneyglass in the final at the Dub Arena and so capped a fantastic year in which they also captured the senior county title. The achievement is all the more remarkable when you consider Bredagh do not have a home pitch.

"It's staggering really, to see where this club has come from over the last number of years," said manager Gerry Rodgers.

"We train wherever we can get, like nine o'clock at night recently, but all the girls turned up."

Joint-captain Ella Durkan said the squad with seven sets of sisters has helped build a community and that the future looks bright.
