Latton rack up convincing win over Kingscourt in Ulster Club final

Ulster Club Ladies’ Junior Football Championship final: Kingscourt (Cavan) 2-5 Latton (Monaghan) 2-16

LATTON got a Monaghan double up and running in the first of Saturday’s Ulster Club finals double header at Galbally with a convincing win over neighbours Kingscourt.

The Monaghan champions put themselves in the driving seat with a 2-8 to 1-4 half-time lead, a first minute goal from Amelia Elliot setting them on their way and by the 18th minute after an unanswered 1-4, they led 2-4 to 0-1, Elliot on target again with her side’s second major.

Kingscourt, led by their captain Nicole Fleming and Amy Rooney, never gave up and Martina Power’s 26th minute goal reduced the deficit to five points, 2-5 to 1-3.

Four points in a row on the resumption saw Latton open up a insurmountable 11-point lead, 2-12 to 1-4, captain and player of the match Lavina Connolly and corner forward Katie Duffy, who finished with seven points, on target.

Kingscourt managed just two second half scores, both from centre half-forward Fleming, her 57th minute goal, a mere consolation, coming from a free.

By that stage, Latton led 2-15 to 1-5, and they added the last point of the game to wrap up a comfortable win and get their hands on the Ulster title.
