Creggan get second bite at Antrim SFC

Northern Switchgear Antrim SFC quarter-final replay Erin’s Own, Cargin v Kickham’s, Creggan (today, Ahoghill, 6pm)

TOMMY McCann’s last-gasp leveller last Friday means Creggan return to Ahoghill today to take on defending champions, Cargin for the right to face St John’s in the semi-final.

It was a strange game last week, with Cargin seemingly on their way to a handsome win when, despite an early Mark Dougan goal for Creggan, they stormed into a seven-point lead, with the in-form Ciaran Close leading the way.

However, Kevin Madden’s men battled back superbly with Dougan, Conor Small and McCann to the fore as they snatched a draw.

They will hope they can pick up from where they left off today against John Brennan’s men who were off-colour for the majority of last week’s gripping clash, but as with all replays, it’s about who can make the better adjustments.

Cargin will be without Kevin O’Boyle, but should welcome back Michael Magill, who was only available for a five-minute cameo last week.

Creggan will certainly take plenty of heart from last week and will know that they can match their local rivals, but the question is whether they can reach the same heights they did in the last 40 minutes from last week.

The hunch is there is more improvement in Cargin and they ought to progress.
