Portadown and Glenavon draw as Ballymena and Glentoran are washed off

Shaun Casey

Portadown and Glenavon played out an even draw this evening with both teams getting on the scoresheet.

A goal three minutes before the half time break from youngster Oisin Conaty handed Portadown a 1-0 lead.

The hosts could have broken the deadlock much sooner but for a great save from Glenavon net minder Rory Brown kept the game level as he turned away a Jordan Jenkins effort from the spot kick.

The visitors levelled matters seven minutes after the turnaround with a goal through defender Mark Haughey.

Glenavon perhaps had the best opportunity to win it, when substitute Eoin Bradley saw his attempt crash off the inside of the posts in the dying seconds of the game.

Elsewhere, Ballymena United’s clash with Glentoran was abandoned due to the weather conditions after 16 minutes of action.

Referee Lee Tavinder halted play for a ten-minute spell but called the game off after a further pitch inspection. The game was all square, 0-0, when the final whistle sounded.
