Glenavon chalk up second away win in a row

GLENAVON recorded their second away win in a row as they defeated Newry City 2-1 at the Showgrounds last night.

Gary Hamilton’s side took the lead in the 21st minute when Gary Muir, a last-minute addition to the Glenavon team, slotted home a penalty after Andy Coleman was adjudged to have fouled Mark Sykes.

The away side doubled their advantage in the 34th minute when Stephen Donnelly celeverly dinked the ball over Coleman.

Glenavon looked comfortable at that stage but Newry grabbed a lifeline just before the break when Stephen Teggart got a goal back with his first Premiership strike.

Both sides had a host of chances in the second half but neither could add to their tally, ensuring that Glenavon moved onto six points and level with leaders Coleraine and Linfield – for a few hours at least.
