The victorious St Mary's University College, Belfast squad who captured the prestigious Sigerson Cup in February meet up again for the cameras ahead of a special sporting celebration event at their west Belfast campus.

Paddy Tally's St Mary's side celebrated in style after defeating the reigning Sigerson Cup champions University College Dublin (UCD) by a single point, 0-13 to 2-6. in a final thriller in Bekan, county Mayo.

The college recently celebrated the sporting success of its students at a special event at the Falls Road campus. St Mary’s students also won won the All-Ireland Netball League title this season.

Former Irish News and BBC journalist Jerome Quinn was the master of ceremonies at the campus event, as he interviewed students, past and present, as well as the legendary Jim McKeever in the telling of stories about vital scores, saves and turn-overs as well as preparations, camaraderie and celebrations.

Jerome was the journalist who reported on the College’s previous Sigerson victory in 1989 and was well able to bridge the 28-year gap in conversation with players and coaches, past and present.

The use of video footage on a large screen brought tales of outstanding sporting performance to life in a packed hall and facilitated conversations about the significant victories enjoyed by the students this year.

The conversations continued until late into the night at a social event after the presentations were made to the players and managers.
