Flicker has more than a glimmer of Hope at Wexford

Flicker Of Hope was a cosy winner when opening his account recently and can follow up at Wexford on Wednesday evening.

The Buck’s Boum gelding ran a nice race to finish fourth on his handicap debut at Limerick last month and collected last time in good style.

A big jump at the last in Clonmel sealed the deal and the five-year-old won with a bit up his sleeve when beating the consistent Tingarran Express by a length-and-a-quarter.

He really powered through the line that day, over two-miles-three, and it’s no surprise to see connections stepping up to three miles.

The big gelding is a chaser in the making and despite a 9lb rise for his recent win he looks capable of progressing further at this kind of trip.

It’s a competitive enough contest for the grade and recent course and distance winner Plain Or Battered looks an obvious danger.

The Mahler gelding gained a deserved win here 11 days ago, when rallying gamely, and should be capable of another big show despite a 7lb rise.

Mahler Appeal was a wide margin winner over fences at the last meeting here and is another that has to be respected.

He races off a 2lb lower mark over hurdles, so appears attractively treated, but did look fairly exposed before his success last time and it remains to be seen if he can back that up.

In the preceding conditions hurdle over the same three-mile trip, Antrim Coast makes most appeal at the weights.

The Presenting gelding ran well in a similar contest at Punchestown at the start of the month and was a touch unlucky then when short of room turning for home.

He had some highly enough rated rivals around when finishing third and this looks like a nice opportunity now.

The standard in the race is set by the 135-rated Joyeux Machin, who likes it around here but has questions to answer after some poor runs this year.

The opening rated hurdle is another interesting race and Feet Of A Dancer may be able to land another win at the track.

Paul Nolan’s charge won twice here last year and has had a little break since finishing third in a competitive mares’ handicap at the Dublin Racing Festival back in February.
