WILL Grigg might not have made it on to the pitch for a single moment of playing time during Euro 2016, but the fact he’s just been named among the best 25 footballers in Europe should come as some consolation.

Yes, in a poll of journalists from across the 55 Uefa nations, Wigan and Northern Ireland striker Grigg came out level with Paul Pogba, Giorgio Chiellini and Diego Godin – and ahead of Kevin De Bruyne.

To be clear, this is an official Uefa award – not some sort of Boaty McBoatface public vote hack. Whoever said journalists don’t have a sense of humour?

Sadly, Grigg didn’t make the final cut for the top 10, who go on to the next round of voting.

Those were Gareth Bale, Gianluigi Buffon, Antoine Griezmann, Toni Kroos, Lionel Messi, Thomas Muller, Manuel Neuer, Pepe, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez.

Coming in 10th and 11th were two of Leicester’s Premier League-winning stars, Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy, with N’Golo Kante 17th.

That’s great and all, but none of them are on fire – so who’s the real winner?
