On This Day - Jan 10 1949: George Foreman, world heavyweight champion is born

 A trio of champions, Joe Frazier, George Foreman and Muhammad Ali, in London (1989) to publicise the launch of the video 'Champions Forever',

ON THIS DAY 

1920: A new record NHL score was set by the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto St Patricks. The Canadiens won 14-7, and the 21-goal aggregate beat the 19 set three years earlier when the Montreal Wanderers beat the Toronto Arenas 10-9.

1930: New Zealand played their first Test match, against England at Christchurch. England, shorn of the services of many first-choice players who were touring the West Indies, nonetheless won by eight wickets.

1985: Ravi Shastri emulated Sir Garry Sobers' feat of 1968 when he hit six sixes in one over, for Bombay off the bowling of Baroda's Tilak Raj.

1991: Manchester United announced they would be following the lead of Tottenham by becoming a public company with their shares quoted on the Stock Exchange.

2006: Manchester United signed Patrice Evra from Monaco on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

2007: Walter Smith resigned as Scotland manager to take over as Rangers boss.

2010: Togo captain Emmanuel Adebayor announced his team would head home from the African Nations Cup in Angola on the advice of the Togolese government following a gun attack on the team bus which claimed the lives of three people.
