Sligo GAA have confirmed that Armagh and Crossmaglen man Tony McEntee will be staying on as the senior team manager for 2024, whilst Offaly's Martin Murphy has stepped down from his position.

Sligo had a promising year in 2023, as McEntee led the county to a Division Four league title in the spring, before reaching the Connacht final. They also proved to be no pushovers in the All-Ireland Series, with a 0-14 to 0-14 draw against Kildare the highlight.

On Tuesday night, Sligo confirmed that McEntee will remain in his post as manager for at least another season, with County Board Chairperson Sean Carroll saying: “The review was very thorough and detailed. We want to thank both the management and the players for their time and thoughts. Between us all we recognise that to progress further requires improving every aspect of the team’s work, on and off the field – our standards have to be higher.

"The work of the past number of weeks has focussed on getting everyone involved aligned and working together well ahead of the start of next season. We are pleased to have that all tied down ahead of the start of the club championship in three weeks’ time."

Elsewhere, Offaly GAA announced on Wednesday afternoon that senior football manager Martin Murphy will not be staying on for 2024.

Murphy was appointed for the role midway through the season following the sudden death of Liam Kearns.

In a statment published online Offaly GAA wrote: 'County Board Chairperson, Michael Duignan said he respected Martin Murphy's decision and the process to appoint a new manager is now underway'.
