MARK Allen’s stellar season continued on Thursday evening as he reached the quarter-finals of the BetVictor English Open in Brentwood.
The Antrim man, already a winner of the Cazoo UK Championship and BetVictor Northern Ireland Open, as well as runner-up at the Cazoo British Open, beat John J Astley 4-1 in their last-16 clash to set up a quarter-final on Friday against surprise packet Ashley Hugill.
World number 98 Hugill beat Martin Gould, winner over Ronnie O’Sullivan in the last 16, 4-1 to book his place in the last eight.
In Friday’s other quarter-finals, Neil Robertson will take on Mark Williams; Judd Trump comes up against Luca Brecel; while Ali Carter was awaiting the winner of the Mark Selby-Shaun Murphy last-16 encounter.
