MARK Allen fell at the last-32 stage of the Scottish Open in Edinburgh on Thursday, losing 4-1 to Thepchaiya Un-Nooh.

Antrim’s world number five has enjoyed the best run of form in his career since the start of this season, winning the UK Championship and the BetVictor Northern Ireland Open and losing to Ryan Day in the final of the British Open, but he couldn’t sustain that and he found himself 3-0 down as the talented Thai recorded breaks of 61, 85 and 58.

Allen did get on the board in frame four, but it was a fleeting reprieve as Un-Nooh fired in a break of 87 to finish the match.

Home interest ended as John Higgins squandered a 3-1 lead against Wales’s Jamie Jones in the last 32, and Anthony McGill lost 4-2 to Neil Robertson in the last 16.

Jones went on to face Un-Nooh in the last 16, forcing a decider from 3-1 behind, but losing it on the colours. Un-Nooh now faces Judd Trump in the quarter-finals on Friday.

Joe O’Connor caused a shock with a 4-3 win over Mark Williams.
