2000: Harry Cavan, former president of the Irish Football Association and Britain's representative on Fifa's executive committee for almost three decades, died aged 83.
2007: The NFL announced London would host a regular-season game in 2007. The contest was the first competitive NFL game ever to be staged outside North America.
2008: Chelsea agreed terms with Lokomotiv Moscow for Serbian defender Branislav Ivanovic.
2010: Arsenal re-signed their former defender Sol Campbell until the end of the 2009-10 season.
2011: Everton accepted a bid from Chelsea for Steven Pienaar, who nevertheless went on to join Tottenham.
2012: Chelsea completed the signing of England defender Gary Cahill from Bolton.
2013: Bayern Munich confirmed Pep Guardiola would become their new coach from the start of the 2013-14 season, after agreeing a three-year deal. He replaced Jupp Heynckes.
2016: England clinched a famous Test series victory in South Africa as they took an unassailable 2-0 lead with a seven-wicket triumph in Johannesburg. The Proteas claimed a consolation win in Centurion as the scoreline finished 2-1 to Alastair Cook's tourists.
