1991: Wales were beaten 71-8 by New South Wales. It was the first time since 1881 that a Welsh side had conceded 13 tries in a match.

1999: Damon Hill decided to delay his retirement from Formula One until the end of the season following his fifth place at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

1999: Ipswich agreed to sell midfielder Kieron Dyer to Newcastle for £6.5million.

2002: Tipperary held Cork to a draw in the Munster SFC final, 1-14 to 2-11. Cork would go on to win the replay by 19 points a week later.

2006: Juventus, Lazio and Fiorentina were relegated to Serie B and deducted points, and AC Milan were also deducted points, after an investigation into match-fixing in Italian football. All the punishments were later reduced on appeal, with only Juve forced to play the following season in the second tier.

2016: Chris Froome strengthened his grip on the yellow jersey in bizarre circumstances as stage 12 of the Tour de France ended in chaos on the slopes of Mont Ventoux, where he was reduced to running up the mountain on foot after his bike was broken following a crash.

2017: England defender Kyle Walker joined Manchester City from Tottenham for an undisclosed fee on a five-year deal.
