JUSTIN Thomas won his first major golfing title last night, claiming victory at the US PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.

The American shot a final round 68 to finish eight-under par for a two-shot victory.

Thomas had started the day two shots behind Kevin Kisner but endured something of a shaky start with a birdie at the second sandwiched between two bogeys. However, birdies at seven, nine, 10, 13 and 17 saw him hit the front as his rivals struggled under difficult conditions.

Francisco Molinari and Patrick Reed shot a pair of 67s to share second place with Louis Oosthuizen (70), while Japan's Hideki Matsuyama (72) were joint fifth with Rickie Fowler (67).

Rory McIlroy had his best day of the week with a round of 68 leaving him tied for 22nd, while Shane Lowry shot a final round 72 for tied 48th on five-over par.
