Irish swimmers, Shane Ryan and Fiona Doyle, take to the Olympic pool in Rio de Janiero today
Irish swimmers Shane Ryan and Fiona Doyle will take to the pool in Rio today for their main Olympic Games events. Doyle will be first up in the 100m Breaststroke, Ryan in the 100m Backstroke.
Doyle has a best time of 1:07.15 in her event, which won her bronze at the World University Games in 2015. Ryan's best time is 53.84 from the US Championships in 2013.
It's an anxious wait for the two Irish swimmers but confidence is high.
``I'm nervous, but confident, I'd be worried if I wasn't nervous,'' said Doyle.
``The Olympic pool is really nice and it feels great to swim in it. We've had some great training in Uberlandia and here in Rio and I'm feeling really good about my race.''
Shane Ryan was also in positive form: ``We had a really great week training in Uberlandia, it was weird at first training at night but we've got used to that. The Olympic village is everything you would hope, the pool is fast but there are a lot of people! I'm excited to just get in and race.''
