On This Day - Feb 27 2005: McIntosh helps Saffrons demolish Down

1959: The Boston Celtics scored 173 points against Minneapolis. It was a new National Basketball Association (NBA) record points total and remains the highest score in any game not needing overtime.



1991: Tony Adams played his first game for Arsenal following his release from prison. He led the team to a 1-0 win over Shrewsbury in an FA Cup fifth-round tie.



2000: Leicester won the last League Cup final at the old Wembley, a 2-1 victory over Tranmere seeing them lift the Worthington Cup.



2001: The British Horseracing Board and Jockey Club announced that racing in Britain would be suspended for seven days due to the outbreak of foot and mouth disease.



2005: Antrim blew Down away in their National Hurling League Division 1B clash at Portaferry. A Michael Herron goal gave the Saffrons a 1-9 to 0-5 lead at half-time, and second half goals from Darren Quinn and Johnny McIntosh ensured a 3-13 to 0-9 win.



2007: Old rivals Queens and UUJ met at The Dub with the Jordanstown men emerging as 1-17 to 0-16 victors after extra-time. UUJ's Paddy Cunningham forced extra-time with a last-gasp point in normal time, and Adrian McGuckin's side were stronger from there on in.



2010: St Gall's needed extra-time to see off Corofin and qualify for the All-Ireland club Football Championship final. CJ McGourty grabbed their goal in the 13th minute, but Gary Sice forced an additional 20 minutes for the Galway team. St Gall's, however, dominated from there to win 1-15 to 1-11.



2011: Birmingham beat Arsenal 2-1 to win the Carling Cup final, Obafemi Martins scoring a late winner after a mix-up between defender Laurent Koscielny and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
