What do you do?
An tOireachtas is a lead organisation in the Irish language sector charged with organising and promoting events as Gaeilge and establishing Irish language networks. It receives core-funding from cross-border body, Foras na Gaeilge.
An tOireachtas operates on an all-Ireland basis and employs a team of event officers in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to organise and promote an extensive calendar of arts, culture and social events, all through Irish, to cater for Irish-speakers.
The national arts & culture festival, Oireachtas na Samhna, is the annual showcase event organised by An tOireachtas featuring the best of sean-nós (traditional old style) performing arts. The festival programme includes junior and senior competitions, formal and informal music and singing sessions, exhibitions, seminars, drama and a host of fringe events.
Other activities include promoting new Irish writing through the Oireachtas literary competitions; encouraging the publication of Irish books by organising The Annual Publishing Awards.
