Demand for IT professionals in Northern Ireland jumps thanks to our growing industry

The number of jobs for IT professionals in Northern Ireland has risen by over 40 per cent since this time last year according to figures released by NIJobs.com.

IT jobs are the forefront of a thriving local job market says Sam McIlveen general manager of NIJobs.com.

“We now have over 1,000 jobs from businesses across NI on our site. It’s a big milestone for NIJobs.com and illustrates just how robust recruitment is right now. Vacancies have risen across many industries, but IT is leading the pack. The number of IT jobs advertised in April, May and June rose by 20 per cent compared to the first three months of the year and increased by 43 per cent compared to twelve months ago.”

Over the past number of years, successfully attracted by Invest NI, many FDI firms have chosen to set up tech hubs here. It’s these businesses that form the backbone of Northern Ireland’s IT jobs surge.

Companies such as Allstate Northern Ireland employs more than 1,800 people across offices in Belfast, Derry and Strabane. The teams in NI support Allstate’s parent company in Illinois providing high-quality software development services and business process outsourcing solutions. The company currently has over 20 jobs available on NIJobs.com with positions for application developers, test engineers and more.

While California cybersecurity company Anomali and Boston based payment technology company Cayan are both actively recruiting for a host of IT professionals to join their respective Belfast teams.

Meanwhile also looking for IT talent in Belfast is Citi. The global bank has a centre of excellence in Belfast which provides support services, including IT, to Citi teams across EMEA.

There is a variety of IT jobs available, but software engineers are particularly in demand. The Kainos Group, which recently announced a £8million investment into a new R&D project, has vacancies on their team for senior and lead software engineers while the innovative Pizza app company Slice has a number of roles open at their offices in Donegall Square for experienced engineers.

Other businesses currently expanding their IT teams with the support of NIJobs.com include Proofpoint, Metacompliance, Capita, Version 1, SQS and PwC.

Mr McIlveen adds: “It’s gratifying to assist companies to find the talented IT professionals they need because we fully appreciate the value they bring to a business.  Over the past eighteen months our own recruitment technology team which includes designers, developers, UX, UI and SEO professionals, launched a series of innovative new products on NIJobs.com which they built to make job hunting and recruitment quicker and smoother for the candidate and company alike. Our commitment to delivering market leading recruitment technology has allowed us to offer an unparalleled experience to everyone who uses our site.”
