Strangford Lough Skiffie Festival of racing takes place on July 22 and 23

SKIFFIE boat racing is taking place on Strangford Lough this weekend as part of a two-day festival this weekend.

The festival centres on Delamont Country Park and in addition to the 20 boat races there will be activities for children and a food village.

There will be a range of activities to keep children and young people entertained, including learning to make boats, traditional rope making, bush craft cooking and a magical show with interactive storytelling and puppets.

Dundrum Coastal Rowing Club won the Skiffle World Championships in 2016 and will be racing against teams from around Ireland and Scotland on July 22 and 23.

A skiffie is a colourful rowing boat and they are often built by local communities.

The Strangford Lough Skiffie Festival is the second of five events in the Giant Adventures summer programme in Newry, Mourne and Down District Council area.

Delamont Country Park has an entrance fee of £4 per car.
