Sinn Féin's very good general election - but not outstanding

Sinn Féin had a very good election: very good but not outstanding. No party which increases the number of its TDs by over 50 per cent can be described as having had other than a very good election. The party also polled 295,000 votes making Sinn Féin the third largest party in the Republic. That said, it did not do as well as expected or predicted and predicted with good reason.
